Chicharron Light !

9 Sep

Chicharron, my dear friends is a must when coming to my beautiful country; and the best place to have it  is at, Chicharron Light (No pun intended: D) at Jose Contreras close to Ave. Luperon. I´ve tried many but this has won a special place in my heart.

Colmado chicharron chicharron light line of people line of people bars IMG-20130907-WA0011

Chicharron, for of those of you who are wondering is fried pork rinds , although it can also be made with chicken.

This is a very affordable meal. The pound sells for RD$260 (give or take US$6) and the sides are extra the options are between boiled Yucca or Guineito (very similar to plantains but smaller, darker and softer) , the minimum you can buy is RD$30 (around half a pound).

One pound of chicharron and RD$30 pesos of one of the sides, is more than enough for one person ,but you´ll probably end up buying a couple of pounds (trust me, you will!). Make sure to add Viagra,  yes you read correctly, Viagra. It´s the name of a secret sauce they have to make this experience even more unforgettable.

This place takes Chicharron very seriously. They have very high standard even when buying their pigs, they must have a specific percentage of body fat to ensure quality in their product.  They easily sell 20 pound every 30 minutes!!

Once you get there, don´t be surprised the line and the noise from the next-door Colmado. They have tickets so the line moves pretty quickly. Fresh Chicharron is carried out of the kitchen frequently so your order will always be fresh.

If you want to get a REAL feel of what Dominicans are like, drop by. Everything is very real, local and delicious. Sit down at the colmado, have a Presidente Beer and enjoy they food.

Now the best part of this post…. Pictures

Many people will recommend different places where to get great chicharron, but I don´t think it gets better than this.
